Herons Nest Presents Dawn Pemberton

The Herons Nest is thrilled to host Canada’s queen of soul, Dawn Pemberton, for an intimate concert accompanied by pianist, Michael Creber.

Dawn Pemberton is a vibrant, soulful Canadian vocalist and multiple Juno Award nominee whose powerful voice moves effortlessly from gospel and soul to jazz, funk, and world music. A staple of the Vancouver music scene, she has toured extensively across Canada and Europe, sharing stages with legends like Bettye LaVette and Kurt Elling, and opening for Maceo Parker and St. Paul & The Broken Bones. Dawn’s acclaimed debut album, Say Somethin’, earned her the title of “the new queen of Canadian soul.” She is also the founder of the Roots ‘N’ Wings Women’s Choir, a sought-after educator, and host of Get on The Good Foot on CKUA Radio. With adventure, groove, and heart, Dawn brings music to life, hitting audiences where it counts and leaving them wanting more.

MICHAEL CREBER is a Grammy-nominated and Juno Award-winning artist who was dubbed “a cross between Floyd Cramer and Thelonius Monk” by one LA reviewer. As one of the West Coast’s most sought-after musicians, Michael pursues a wide-ranging career as a pianist, film composer, arranger and producer; embracing many genres of music including jazz, latin, folk, R&B and rock.  He has performed  with symphony orchestras across North America and has recorded and toured internationally with k.d. lang (including performances on Saturday Night Live, the Grammy Awards, Arsenio Hall, Austin City Limits and six appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson), the Irish Rovers (including 36 television specials) and world-renowned family entertainer Raffi (including performances on Broadway and at President Clinton’s first inauguration). He co-produced and co-wrote 3 albums with Raffi including their 1994 hit CD, Bananaphone. Other luminaries Michael has worked with include Andrea Bocelli, David Foster, Martin Short, Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, The Rankin Sisters, Shirley Bassey, Powder Blues, Jim Byrnes, Dee Daniels and Valdy. Michael has released four albums of original music: Brand New Smile, Dancers of the Spheres, Smooth Sailing and Songs For My Baby.

Herons Nest presents Wild Blue Herons - stories and songs

Bill Sample and Darlene Cooper (Wild Blue Herons) will be performing some of their original songs plus excerpts from the 'Boomers' musical they have been working on! This is an opportunity to hear a different side of the Wild Blue Herons' song writing! And hear the stories behind the songs.

It will be an enjoyable evening of life inspired music - you will be moved from laughter to tears.

Miles Foxx Hill will be joining us on bass guitar. Miles is a bassist, producer, engineer and composer.  As an electric and acoustic bass player he has recorded and performed live with some of the world’s most accomplished musicians including Van Morrison, Michael Buble, Chad Kroeger of Nickleback and Brazilian pop sensation Ivan Lins.  Hill has become known for his profound sense of time, unique arrangements and his ability to play a diverse spectrum of musical styles.  He has played on over 600 records that include everything from jazz, funk, tango, country and rock and roll.
